With the American College of Sports Medicine 11th annual worldwide fitness survey in combination with ClassPass fitness data for NYC, we now have the layout of this year’s workout trends in New York City, and the results are shocking!

Trends are not to be confused with fads though. Fads come and go at the drop of a dime, but fitness trends are the ones with real value that rose to the top for good reason, and are here to stay.

1. High Intensity Interval Training

Also known as HIIT, this fitness trend suddenly burst into the fitness world in 2015, and has stayed at the top of the trends list. This type of workout usually entails short, extreme periods of exercise followed by rest.

It’s known as being incredibly effective for burning fat while shaping and toning the body, and with the right playlist your workout can pass in seemingly minutes, rather than a full hour.
